Introduction

Tione Jayden Merritt (born April 30, 2001), professionally known as Lil Tjay, is an American rapper and songwriter from the Bronx, New York. He is known for blending melodic rap with emotionally driven storytelling, often reflecting personal struggle, growth, and ambition.

Early Life

Lil Tjay was born and raised in the Fordham neighborhood of the Bronx. Raised by a single mother alongside two younger siblings, he faced numerous challenges growing up. During his teenage years, he began writing music while in youth detention, where his creative focus intensified.

Career Breakthrough

He gained early traction in 2017 with the song “Resume”, released on SoundCloud. His breakout single “Brothers” in 2018 led to a recording deal with Columbia Records.

In 2019, Lil Tjay earned mainstream recognition after appearing on Polo G’s hit single “Pop Out”, followed by the release of his debut album True 2 Myself, which debuted at number five on the Billboard 200.
